The Chippendale furnitures were the unique designs produced by Thomas Chippendale son of the English carpenter John Chippendale. He created some of the world’s best furnitures for the Royal Family of England. The Chippendale style furnitures were generally made of mahogany. He was initially famous for his cabinets which had elaborate carvings. His designs had spread far and wide. In the Chippendale period in America, the cabinet makers used cherry wood instead of Mahogany. Some of the furnitures also used the pine wood. However , in England it was either mahogany or Oakwood. The Chippendale furnitures had a mixed flavour of Rocco style and the Chinese style.

There are Chippendale furnitures that are made in the 18th century and also the ones made in the contemporary times. The ones made in the contemporary times are just the remake of the ones in the 18th century. Some of the 18th century furnitures are found in some antique shops in eBay. Those furnitures are bound to be expensive and the dealer has to give a certificate, certifying that it is the original and not the reproduction. 1. Chippendale China Cabinet- this a wonderful piece of American mahogany china cabinet that is beautiful hand carved . It has an Acanthus leaf and flower which is also hand carved. The legs of the cabinet have a deep curve in ball and claw. This is an original piece with beautiful patina. The starting bid has been placed for $2000 approximately.
2. Mahogany Chippendale Style Desk with Cabriole legs – this piece has been made in America between 1890 and 1910. The dimensions of this wonderful desk are 28” tall , 54” wide and 32” deep. The legs of the desk are the famous and beautiful Cabriole that measures to 16.5 inches.
Some of the Chippendale furnitures that are available today are the reproduction of the older ones. Therefore the prices for the reproduced ones would be anytime less than the original ones.
